2017 Saint Sava Day Observance & Children's Program
On Sunday, January 29, 2017, the Cathedral Sunday school youth presented a beautiful program, celebrating the Feast of Saint Sava. The Sunday school has a very full fall schedule that comes to a climax on the last Sunday of January, when the Saint Sava Day Children's Program is presented to a very enthusiastic audience! Unique to this year was the fact that Southern California dealt with historic rainfall levels throughout January, including a serious storm the Sunday before the program. However, on Sunday, January 29, 2017, another edition of this traditional program was masterfully presented by our school children from Preschool through Senior high on a dry, sunny day. Before it took place, Resurrectional Matins and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated in the church, and liturgical responses were offered by the music class (Grades 3-8), under the direction of lay assistant Jonny Braun. Jonny also led the music class through two selections during the program, the three folklore dance groups performed, combined class presentations were offered, and over thirty children skillfully recited poems and verses they had been practicing on their own. The show concluded with the entire school assembled on stage to sing a hymn of praise to Saint Sava (Patron Saint of school children), “Light in the Darkness,” then Fr. Nicholas Ceko proceeded with the Blessing of the Kolach and a delicious luncheon was served by the Women's Auxiliary. By the end of the day, appetites for both good entertainment and go od food were satisfied! We express our gratitude to our staff, parents and especially our children and youth whose efforts made this such a special day for all!
